Charlotte’s Story

In September 2024, Charlotte was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive pediatric brain cancer. When she was first admitted to McMaster Children’s Hospital, Charlotte felt overwhelmed and scared as her world — and her body — began to change.

Throughout her cancer journey, Charlotte experienced countless acts of kindness from others. These gestures meant so much to her and inspired her to do something meaningful: to pay that kindness forward to other children facing cancer.

At just 11 years old, Charlotte created the original design for Charlotte’s Smiles 4 Kids Project using her own fingerprint flowers alongside an inspirational quote that meant so much to her:

“Grow through what you go through.”

To Charlotte, those words never meant that pain wasn't real or that she didn't have hard days. They meant that even in life's most difficult moments, something beautiful can still grow.

Charlotte began selling tote bags featuring her artwork, with proceeds going toward creating gift bags filled with toys, activities, and comfort items for children facing cancer.

Charlotte passed away on July 6, 2026, but her kindness, compassion, and desire to make a difference live on through Charlotte’s Smiles 4 Kids Project.

What began as one little girl’s wish to give back has grown into something bigger than we ever imagined. To date, Charlotte’s project has donated over 700 gift bags to pediatric cancer patients across Ontario, reaching all primary pediatric cancer hospitals — McMaster Children’s Hospital in Hamilton, the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario in Ottawa, Kingston Health Sciences, Children’s Hospital at London Health Sciences Centre, and SickKids, as well as their satellite locations.

As Charlotte’s legacy continues to grow, so does our reach. In addition to supporting children across Ontario, we are now sending specially curated Smile Boxes to children across Canada who are navigating their own cancer journeys outside of Ontario.

Each gift bag and Smile Box is thoughtfully created to bring comfort, distraction, joy, and a reminder to children facing cancer that they are brave, they are strong, and they are not alone.

Today, we continue Charlotte’s project in her honour and in the spirit of the kindness she so deeply believed in. Every tote bag and shirt purchased, art print shared, and donation made helps us continue spreading Charlotte’s smiles to children and families navigating the difficult journey of childhood cancer.

Thank you for supporting Charlotte’s legacy and for helping us ensure that her kindness continues to reach children who need it most.

Together, we will continue to grow through what we go through and carry Charlotte’s light forward.
